The Body Remembers (Even When You Think It's Forgotten)
Share
I'm back in my Pilates routine, and here's what's surprising me: the body remembers.
Even after two months away, even though getting back up to speed isn't as quick as it would be at a younger age, the muscle memory is still there. My body knows these movements. It hasn't forgotten completely, even though the strength has diminished.
That's oddly reassuring.
Adding Strength Training
Now I need to start layering in extra strength exercises. I bought this amazing little gadget years ago called SpinGym - looks like they don't make them anymore, but it's ingenious. Resistance training in a little bag. And I like that it's very pink.
Tomorrow I start on my arms with the SpinGym. Then back to Pilates on Saturday. I'm building a rhythm: Pilates one day, strength training the next.
Let's see how long it takes to rebuild what I lost.
An Unexpected Gift from Pilates
One more thing I need to mention: years ago, I slipped off my bike pedals coming off the pavement and broke my tailbone. It grew back straight instead of curved, so for years I couldn't sit on my tailbone normally. The pressure buildup from sitting was always sore.
But I've noticed something - the pain and pressure I had before has gotten a lot better. Not gone, but significantly better. And I think it's the Pilates. The core work, the alignment, is helping.
I wasn't expecting that benefit. But I'll take it.
Just a short update to keep track of where I am in the journey. More to come as I document the rebuild.
